Demining and Socio-economic Integration

Objective: Demining of protected forest and forest land and socio-economic integration of mine victims.

Project purpose: Clearance and release of a part of the mine contaminated and mine suspected areas. Through Swiss – Croatian cooperation programme an area of 1.2 km2 highly contaminated and dangerous area of Kotar Forest , situated in Sisak-Moslavina County, will be demined. The demining of Kotar Forest is a precondition to ensure safety and security of the local population who live in a village near the city of Sisak as well as the safety of employees of Croatian forest who work in this area.

Apart from demining, the aim of this project is to perform a socio-economic integration of mine victims through relevant education and empowerment that will help increase employability and competitiveness in the labour market. In addition, through the project a comprehensive database of mine victims will be established. This is followed by assessment of their needs and implementation of educational courses and other forms of support for mine victims.
